A new poll today put out by Environics. The big story - no change. This is really not a story as we are into BBQ season, but I appreciate the 1 minute distraction that this provided.
In brief, the June 2007 results:
Conservatives: 37% (+1 from Environic's March poll)
Liberals: 28% (-)
NDP: 17% (+1)
Bloc: 7% (-1)
Green: 11% (-1)
The minor story is that Montrealers like Jack Layton due to what the Montreal Gazette has termed "the Mulcair Effect". This goes to show that Montrealers must have more options than having to read the Globe and Mail, and they must have missed Bill Curry's article on Thomas Mulcair. I would appreciate it if someone could tell why the Globe and Mail continues to have someone like Bill Curry report on the NDP when he clearly dislikes the NDP. (I fear the answer is that the G&M has an agenda that consists of reporting on only two parties).

I don't think it's so much that Curry dislikes the NDP (though he probably does). I think that it's more that he's an equal opportunity jerk who is cynical, doesn't like politicians, and knows what soft spots to touch in order to make them squirm.
Generally though, on the piece in question, I don't think that the NDP has much to complain about. A banner headline and a big picture in a national newspaper attached to a story about the NDP's renewed hoped in Quebec! That will leave far more of impression with most readers than the little digs that will only be felt and noticed by the most intense followers.
Most popular choice for PM in Canada's coolest city? Them's good bragging rights.
