Citizen Dozois

I am taking a break from regular broadcasting to note the achievement of one of Ottawa Centre's most eligible bachelorettes. A quiet archivist who is a force to be reckoned with, Paulette Dozois was recognized on Monday night as Ottawa's Citizen of the Year (adult).

I have sat with Paulette on a few committees and she is certainly one of Ottawa Centre's most active individuals. After meetings, she is often dashing off to catch a bus to a public lecture, a town hall (likely relating to another inept stab at community planning down at city hall), or another meeting relating to her many community involvements. She is dedicated to the renewal of a her community, and she has done excellent work with the Hintonburg Community Association and the Ottawa Centre NDP, to name just a few organizations that are lucky enough to have her on board.

Her dedication to the improvement of her community can only be described as tireless. I remember sitting on a committee with her when we were discussing the attendance of upcoming events and she quipped "well who does have the time to attend all of these events." I say quipped because I only hope she realized that she participates in more town halls, community events, social justice causes then anyone else in the room. During elections, she is a one woman door knocking machine. I would not be surprised to learn that she actually knocks on more doors than the candidate.

Her modesty will ensure that I am now in her bad books for even alluding to the recognition that she has deservedly earned.
